Vernon Harris
Vernon Harris (born February 26, 1905 in Folkestone , † February 1999 in Somerset ) was a British screenwriter .
Life
Harris worked as a screenwriter from the mid-1930s, and he also appeared in several films as an actor until 1938. In the 1930s he developed the program Band Waggon for radio, which in 1940 also resulted in a film. Several films based on his scripts were directed by Lewis Gilbert in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s . Working on the film Oliver earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay in 1969 . At the British Academy Film Awards in 1957 he was nominated together with Hubert Gregg for a British Academy Film Award . Harris last appeared as a screenwriter in the mid-1970s. Subsequently, he worked a few more times as a script editor until the late 1980s , for films made by Lewis Gilbert.
