Jason Dean Hall

Jason Dean Hall (born April 28, 1972 in Lake Arrowhead , California ) is an American screenwriter and former actor .

Life

Jason Hall studied economics, English and film studies at the University of Southern California . He began his film career as an actor in the mid-1990s. He played the recurring character "Devon MacLeish" in the television series Buffy - The Vampire Slayer , had a guest role in Without a Trace - disappeared without a trace and played in various B-films .

He then began a career as a screenwriter with the film Toy Boy (2009). He co-wrote Paranoia - Risky Game with Barry L. Levy . He was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 2015 Academy Awards for the screenplay for American Sniper . Other film awards for which he has been nominated are the Satellite Award , British Academy Film Award, and Writers Guild of America Award .

In 2017 he made his directorial debut with Thank You for Your Service .

In 2018 he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
