TEB Clarke

TEB “Tibby” Clarke , actually Thomas Ernest Bennett Clarke (born June 7, 1907 in Watford , † February 11, 1989 in London ) was an English screenwriter.

Life

Clarke studied at Cambridge and then worked as a reporter in Australia , Argentina and London. In 1932 he published his first book and in 1943 came to the Ealing Studios , for which he worked as a screenwriter from then on. Mostly comedies were created. His biggest achievement was winning the Academy Award for Best Screenplay in 1953 for Luck Came Overnight . The other films after his scripts were no longer as successful, at the end of his career only inconsequential children's films were made. In 1961 there was another Oscar nomination for him and Gavin Lambert for sons and lovers .
