Jeanette Nolan

Jeanette Nolan (born December 30, 1911 in Los Angeles , California - June 5, 1998 there ) was an American actress .

Life

The native Californian began her career at the Pasadena Playhouse while attending college. She also made radio plays. In the early 1930s she met the actor John McIntire and married him in 1935. In the same year they moved to New York City to work for local radio stations. The couple spent their free time on a ranch in Montana , which they bought in 1937.

Jeanette Nolan's first film appearance was in Orson Welles ' cinema adaptation of Shakespeare's Macbeth . Since Welles often re-edited the film after the shooting, it was only shown in New York two years after completion. In the following 50 years, Jeanette Nolan starred in a large number of films, mostly in substantial supporting roles. She also played older roles at an early age, for example as the mother of Mickey Rooney , who was only nine years her junior, in the film Words and Music (1948). With her husband she could be seen in your happiness in my hands in 1950 . Directed by John Ford , she shot the two westerns Two Ride Together (1961) and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962). She lent her voice to two characters from cartoons by Walt Disney : Ellie Mae in Bernard and Bianca - The Mouse Police and the Widow Tweed in Cap and Capper . She also spoke with the actors Virginia Gregg and Paul Jasmin the role of Norman's mother in the thriller Psycho by Alfred Hitchcock .

She was able to excel in many roles on television, including in the pilot for the series People from the Shiloh Ranch . In total, Jeanette Nolan was nominated four times for the Emmy Award . She remained active until the late 1980s, including starring in two episodes of Columbo and appearing in some episodes of Golden Girls . In total, she made over 300 appearances in a wide variety of television programs. Jeanette Nolan ended her long career as an actress with a striking brief appearance as the mother of Robert Redford in The Horse Whisperer , which came to the cinemas a few weeks before her death.

Jeanette Nolan had two children with her husband. She lived on the Montana ranch until her death. She died in 1998 of complications from a stroke.
