The Schneider Verlag Hohengehren is a German publisher with special field pedagogy , which mainly books and magazines out there.

history

In 1927, the authorized signatory Wilhelm Schneider, who was employed in the Langguth printing works in Esslingen am Neckar , started his own business with the small affiliated publishing house . He called this publisher Burgbücherei Wilhelm Schneider ; the castle is a symbol for Esslingen.

The first own books appeared in 1928 in the field of local history lessons (Fritz Freytag: Am Heimatborn ). In 1932 the first edition of Cooking and Baking according to basic recipes by Luise Haarer appeared , which is still available in various editions today.

Up until the Second World War , the publisher mainly produced school books for math and geography lessons. After the Second World War, Walther Schneider, the son of the publisher's founder, joined the publishing house after being released from captivity.

The publisher's program developed further into the area of ​​first reading lessons, where a successful primer was also produced. At the beginning of the 1970s, the school book business for small and medium-sized publishers became increasingly risky economically due to the approval practice of the ministries of education, which is why the publisher was looking for a new field of work in the field of didactics and pedagogy and a resounding success with the paperback of German lessons , the first edition of which appeared in 1972 would have.

In 1977 the current owner, Rainer Schneider, joined the publishing house after studying nutritional science and expanded the publishing program in many directions with his brother Ulrich Schneider, who joined in 1985 after completing an apprenticeship in bookselling. In 1990 the publishing house was renamed Schneider Verlag Hohengehren in order to put an end to misunderstandings with the term library .

In 1990, the Röttger publishing house in Munich was acquired - this also brought books from the behavioral therapy sector and from the field of addiction prevention to the publishing program. Among them was the very successful book (16th edition) by Ralf Schneider, Die Suchtfibel.

In 2013 another great success was achieved with the German edition of John Hattie's Visible Learning , making learning visible , which even made it into the non-fiction bestseller list.

Today, the publishing program mainly covers the areas of pedagogy (from early childhood education to adult education and social pedagogy), didactics (German, material instruction, political education, sport, etc.), addiction prevention, but also cookbooks.

Around 1500 different book titles are available in 2013, and eight regularly appearing magazines are also produced. The publisher produces around 100 new books each year.
