Rainer Winkel

Rainer Winkel (born July 11, 1943 in Dresden ) is a German school teacher and professor at the Berlin University of the Arts .

Life

After studying to be a teacher in Bonn and Paderborn, he initially worked as a primary and secondary school teacher. This was followed by a second degree at the Ruhr University Bochum in education, philosophy, psychology and psychiatry. After completing his master's degree in 1971, he did his doctorate in 1973 with Jakob Muth and completed his habilitation in 1975.

In Essen he founded the local free school , worked in it for a few years and was an associate professor at the university / comprehensive college in Essen . Rainer Winkel has been a professor for educational science at the Berlin University of the Arts since 1980. In 1991, Rainer Winkel founded the JA Comenius Foundation to support children and young people in need , for which he made the assets inherited from his father available. From 1998, Winkel helped to plan the Gelsenkirchen-Bismarck Protestant Comprehensive School and also acted as the founding rector of this reform school for the first five years . For this purpose he was released from his teaching duties. Since 2003, Winkel has also been teaching at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn.

In 1997, he developed a school theory named after him, based on his work The Disturbed Class , in which he discussed a new theory of classroom disorders . In the course of communicative didactics , he calls for classroom disruptions to be viewed as subjectively interpreted circumstances and to be assessed neither by the teacher nor by the student. Instead, only that which influences the course of the teaching and learning process should be classified as a disorder. Winkel advocates the thesis that all human behavior has a cause and that a disruption in the course of a lesson always contains an implicit message from the student. "A teaching disruption occurs when teaching and learning stagnates, stops, becomes perverted or unbearable or inhumane." For example, the troublemaker can express his disinterest in the teaching content, his doubts about the teacher's norms and his preoccupation with his own extracurricular problems bring.

Since 1980, Winkel has been co-editor and editor of various educational magazines and the series “Fundamentals of School Pedagogy”. His bibliography includes several hundred articles and over 30 book publications.
