Rolf Arnold

Rolf Arnold (born November 15, 1952 ) is Professor of Education at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern .

Life

The trained pedagogue ( adult and professional pedagogy ) initially worked for three years as a research assistant before receiving his doctorate at Heidelberg University in 1983 . For the next four years he worked in an international adult education institution ("German Foundation for International Development", today part of the Society for International Cooperation - GIZ), where he was in particular responsible for the further training of specialists and managers from vocational training institutions in developing countries, with a focus on Central and South America . He completed his habilitation in 1987 in the Department of Education and Social Sciences at the Distance University in Hagen , and was appointed to the University of Kaiserslautern in 1990. In 2002, Arnold turned down an appointment to the University of Tübingen (Chair of Adult Education).

Rolf Arnold headed the Center for Distance Learning and University Continuing Education (ZFUW) from 1992 to 2006. Since 2007 he has been Scientific Director of the Distance and Independent Studies Center (DISC), in which the ZFUW was incorporated in 2007. Until 2009 he was chairman of the scientific advisory board of the Institute for Further Education and Consulting (IFB) in Speyer and until 2011 chairman of the board of directors of the German Institute for Adult Education (DIE) in Bonn. Since 2003 he has been the spokesman for the state's Rhineland-Palatinate Virtual Campus . He is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Carl-Auer-Verlag and the magazine Tendencias Pedagogikas. In 2016 he was appointed to the Scientific Advisory Board of the "Instituto de Creatividad e Innovaciones Educativas (ICIE)" at the University of Valencia . In 2017 he received an honorary doctorate from the West University of Timisoara .

Rolf Arnold is regarded as the founder of enabling didactics and emotional constructivism as well as systemic pedagogy. He is at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern a. a. Involved in the management of the master's programs “Adult Education”, “Personnel Development”, “School Development” and “Systemic Consulting”.

Thematic focus

Rolf Arnold's book and magazine publications cover the areas of adult education, vocational training, constructivism as well as international personnel development and leadership development. He has carried out numerous studies in Latin America and was involved in the design of the UNEVOC vocational training center of the United Nations (UN).

His research focuses on the areas of adult education, school-based vocational training, in-company training and further education, development of teaching and learning systems (e.g. distance learning, eLearning), intercultural professional education and emotional learning. In the last few years his focus has been on the sustainable transformation of cognitive-emotional competencies through methods of systemic adult education. Another topic is the pedagogical professionalization of corporate learning as well as the further training of teachers to become learning guides.

The thematic orientation of his work is outlined in the research model "The Kaiserslautern Approach to Adult Learning".
