The madman with the violin case (alternative title: The tall blonde with the red shoe ; original title: The Man with One Red Shoe ) is an American comedy film directed by Stan Dragoti from 1985 . It is a remake of the French comedy The Tall Blonde in the Black Shoe from 1972.

The deputy CIA director Cooper, with the help of people from his department, blames a CIA agent in Morocco on a cocaine trafficking in order to overthrow and replace the CIA head Ross through this affair. But he knows about the plot of his deputy, allows the Senate Committee 48 hours to present further facts about the arrest in Morocco and overhears a conversation with his confidante Brown in his bugged house, Cooper, that a secret carrier is about to arrive at the airport can clear everything up. Brown, who is supposed to greet a random passenger to put Cooper on the wrong track, chooses violinist Richard Drew.

Cooper and his team follow the trail of Drew, who is initially followed by two of Brown's men. But even the seduction of Drew by Cooper's agent Maddy brings no secrets to light, except for the result that both fall in love. Coopers' attempts to kill Drew are unsuccessful.

Maddy testifies before the Senate against the ultimately arrested Cooper, Brown replaces Ross as CIA director, and the romance between Drews and Maddy continues.

Reviews

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times on July 16, 1985 that the film was unsuccessful and uncomfortable. None of the film characters have an IQ higher than their age.

The lexicon of the international film judges: "Sluggish, only reasonably amusing remake of the successful French comedy" The big blonde with the black shoe "(1972)."
