Stan Dragoti

Stanley G. Dragoti (born October 4, 1932 in New York City - † July 13, 2018 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American film director and screenwriter .

Life

Stanley G. Dragoti was born in New York City to Albanian immigrants from the village of Dragot near Tepelena in southern Albania. He was interested in drawing at the age of seven and tried to get a job as a cartoonist with a small portfolio. At 19 he left school and served his military service in the United States Navy in Manhattan . He then studied at Cooper Union and Visual Arts College and worked in the advertising department of Compton's .

In 1979 Stan Dragoti was caught at Frankfurt am Main airport trying to smuggle 25g of cocaine into Germany. He had hidden it in several glass vials under adhesive plasters on his skin. He was with three companions on the way to the Cannes Film Festival . He could face up to 10 years in prison. He stated that the reason for his drug use was that he needed it to be able to cope with the separation from his wife, actress Cheryl Tiegs and the stress. He was sentenced to a suspended prison sentence of 21 months and a fine of 100,000 marks .

Dragoti made his debut in 1972 with the western Dirty Little Billy and made four other movies until his last film, in 1991, Armadillo Bears - A Totally Chaotic Bunch .
