Tom Noonan (born April 12, 1951 in Greenwich , Connecticut ) is an American actor , director and screenwriter .

Life and accomplishments

Noonan graduated from Yale University Drama School . He founded the Paradise Theater in 1983 and has appeared in numerous plays. He played his first film role alongside Michael Ontkean in the 1980 comedy Willie and Phil .

In the thriller Gloria, the gangster bride (1980) by John Cassavetes , Noonan played alongside Gena Rowlands , in the Western Heaven's Gate (1980) he was seen alongside Kris Kristofferson , Christopher Walken and John Hurt . In the thriller Blood Moon (1986) he played the role of the serial killer Francis Dolarhyde, known as the Red Dragon . In the action comedy Last Action Hero (1993) he played the role of the murderer known as The Ripper , who is hunted by Jack Slater ( Arnold Schwarzenegger ).

In the comedy What Happened Was… (1994) Noonan not only appeared in one of the leading roles, but also directed and wrote the screenplay. In 1994 he received two awards from the Sundance Film Festival for the screenplay and was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award in 1995 . He also worked as an actor, director and screenwriter in the comedy The Wife (1995), for which he was nominated for a 1995 Sundance Film Festival award.

Noonan was married to actress Karen Young . He is the brother of John Ford Noonan .
