Ronald L. Schwary

Ronald Louis Schwary (born May 23, 1944 in The Dalles , Oregon , † July 2, 2020 in West Hollywood , California ) was an American film producer .

Life

Schwary graduated from high school in 1962 at the University of Southern California . He began working in the film business as an assistant director for various film and television productions in the early 1970s. John Wayne , also a graduate of the University of Southern California, had given him financial support by giving him the money for a trainee program at the Directors Guild of America . When Schwary failed the first attempt in the late 1960s, Wayne helped him to some extra roles. Schwary then successfully completed the trainee program and won his first DGA Award in 1973 for his directorial work . In 1981 he was awarded the prize again. From 1976 Schwary also worked as an associate producer. In 1980 he produced his first independent film with A Completely Normal Family , for which he received the Oscar in the best film category the following year .

This was followed by several films and, from 1987 to 1988, participation in the television series NAM - Dienst in Vietnam as executive producer . He made his debut as an independent director in 1988 with an episode of the series.

In 1985 he was nominated for an Oscar with Norman Jewison and Patrick J. Palmer for the film Sergeant Waters .

Between 2005 and 2011, Schwary was executive producer on the television series Medium - Nothing Remains Hidden . He also directed several episodes of this series.

From 1971 to 1994, Schwary was married to Susan Carol Schwary (1948–2009), a hair stylist who also worked in the film business. They have two children together.
