action

Formula 1 racing driver Bobby Deerfield is a calculating lone control freak. Everything is going very well professionally as he has a winning streak. After witnessing the death of a colleague, he worries about his own death. He visits an injured colleague in the hospital - he himself was injured in the accident that killed the other colleague - and there meets the impulsive doomed Lillian Morelli. She wants to enjoy the last part of her life to the full and flees the clinic with Bobby. Bobby, who has a partner in Paris, falls in love with Lillian, who initially reacts cautiously. She later begins a passionate and self-destructive affair with Bobby. The film ends with Lillian returning to the hospital as her condition has deteriorated significantly. Bobby drives melancholy to his next race.

reception

criticism

Critics have called Bobby Deerfield an exaggerated melodrama. Vincent Canby of The New York Times wrote that it was one of the most cynical films of the year by the likes of Sydney Pollack and Alvin Sargent who should know better. The film got a rate of 22% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes .

The lexicon of international film judged more positively that the design was "psychologically differentiated, staged with a great sense of nuances and played impressively, but not entirely free of sentimentalities."

Cash receipts

Bobby Deerfield grossed $ 9,300,000 in the United States.
