Romolo Valli

Romolo Valli (born February 7, 1925 in Reggio nell'Emilia , † February 1, 1980 in Rome ) was an Italian actor .

Life

Valli completed a law degree in Parma in 1949, which he did for his father's sake. Immediately afterwards, however, he devoted himself to his passion, acting, and joined the theater company Il Carozzone around Fantasio Piccoli . In 1952 he moved to the Piccolo Teatro di Milano , with which he also performed a tour of South America; In 1954 he and several colleagues founded their own troupe, the Compagnia deigiovani , to which he remained connected until 1974.

At the end of the 1950s he began his cinema career, during which he worked with directors such as Vittorio De Sica , Luchino Visconti and Mario Monicelli . He chose his roles carefully; appearances in genre films such as Non stuzzicate la zanzara or death melody are few and far between. Valli was also active in the synchronous business.

From the mid-1970s he worked at the Teatro Eliseo in Rome and was artistic director of the Festival dei Due Mondi . Valli died in a car accident after performing at the theater. The municipal theater in his hometown was named after him.

He was awarded the Nastro d'Argento for best actor three times (1963, 1971, 1977) .
