Adriana Lima (born June 12, 1981 in Salvador da Bahia ) is a Brazilian model . She was best known for her work at Victoria's Secret .

Life

Adriana Lima da Silva was born in Salvador da Bahia as the only child of Nelson Torres and Maria da Graça Lima. Her father left the family when she was six months old. She has two half brothers.

Adriana Lima was discovered when she decided to take part in the modeling contest Brazil's Ford Supermodel with a friend . At the age of 16, she won the competition that qualified her for participation in the largest model competition in the world, the Supermodel of the World Contest by the model agency Ford Models . She competed against the 49 winners of the other Ford Supermodel Contests and finally came second after the Canadian Leanne Spencer .

In 1997 it appeared in the December issue of US Vogue . She was photographed by Steven Meisel with British model Karen Elson for a fashion series.
