The Follow is part of the BMW short film series The Hire , which was produced on behalf of BMW in 2001 . Directed this commercial film led Wong Kar Wai . The film shows the BMW models 3 Series Coupé and Z3 .

The driver receives an order from a nervous film producer to shadow an actor's wife because she is suspected of cheating on him. While the driver is shadowing the woman, he describes the way to get it right. When she falls asleep at the airport, he discovers that she is obviously being beaten by her husband. He gives the producer back the money and enables her to go to Brazil to see her mother.

The BMW films were originally intended to be webcast only. However, promotional DVDs were created for internal BMW circulation. Its increasing awareness and appearance on eBay convinced those responsible to offer the collection beyond. The original DVD did not include The Follow , the film was also removed from the BMW website. Rumors suspected a contract conflict with Whitaker, who had only signed for an internet movie. According to the contract, he would have had the option to stop a publication for personal reasons.
