America Ferrera (2010)

America Georgine Ferrera (born April 18, 1984 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American actress . Her parents are from Honduras .

Career

She began to appear in theater productions at the age of eight. She made her film debut in 2002 with the lead role in the comedy Real Women Have Curves , for which she was nominated for the Young Artist Award in 2003 . This was followed by guest appearances in television series such as CSI: Vegas and other cinema roles in Eine für 4 and Dogtown Boys .

From 2006 to 2010 she played the title role in the series Alles Betty! , the US version of Yo soy Betty, la fea , for which she became the first Latina to win the Golden Globe Award for Best Leading Role in a TV Series / Comedy . A year later she received at the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2007 and the award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series and at the Screen Actors Guild Awards 2007 the award for Best Actress in a TV Series - Comedy .

As of 2015, Ferrera starred in the series Superstore , which airs on NBC , and has also directed a few episodes. She has announced that she will be leaving after the 5th season in 2020.

In addition to acting, she studied international relations at the University of Southern California and earned a bachelor's degree in 2013. In June 2011 she married actor Ryan Piers Williams. In May 2018, she became the mother of a son.
