RBX (actually Eric Collins ) is an American rapper who specializes in West Coast hip-hop and gangsta rap . His pseudonym is the abbreviation for Reality Born X, where the X stands for Unknown.

biography

RBX is a cousin of Snoop Dogg .

He began his career as part of the label Death Row Records . In his role there he was involved in the creation of the two albums The Chronic by Dr. Dre and doggystyle from Snoop Dogg heavily involved. Soon after the release of these two works, however, an internal dispute arose as RBX was dissatisfied with the fact that the release of its own debut album was repeatedly postponed. He gave Dr. Dre, who was one of the two owners of the label, blamed it and complained to its business partner Suge Knight . In addition, he claimed not received any money for his work on the two previously mentioned and highly successful albums.

Eventually, RBX left Death Row and released his debut album, The RBX Files, on Premeditated, a Warner Bros. Records sub-label . On the first single, A.WOL , he picked up Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg lyrically. Other topics covered on the album were his Islamic beliefs, life as a member of a gang and afrocentrism . Musically, in addition to classic West Coast hip-hop , influences from East Coast hip-hop and dancehall could be heard. With the commercial success of The Chronic and Doggystyle was The RBX Files not keep up. Overall, the album only stayed on the Billboard 200 for three weeks , reaching the top position of 62.

As a result, RBX reconciled with Dr. Dre, who had meanwhile also left Death Row and founded his own label Aftermath Entertainment . To introduce this, the compilation Dr. Dre Presents: The Aftermath , which also recorded an RBX song called Blunt Time .

Until mid-1998, however, no new music from RBX was released. He then joined on the album Ruthless for Life of MC Ren as a guest rapper, again together with Snoop Dogg on before for soundtrack of the film 'da Funk Fakin the piece Heatmizer contributed. This was also heard on RBX's second album No Mercy - No Remorse in 1999 . The work undercut the sales figures of the first and could not achieve a chart placement.

Nevertheless RBX remained active and was on numerous albums of other musicians gefeaturet , among other things, The Marshall Mathers LP ( Remember Me? ) By Eminem and Paid tha Cost to Be da Bo $$ ( Batman & Robin ) by Snoop Dogg. However, he did not publish again under his own name until 2004. First he released his third album, Ripp Tha Game Bloody (Street Muzic) , before The Shining in 2005 , and in 2007 the EP Westside Radio, Vol. 18 and the fourth work Broken Silence followed. None of them achieved commercial importance.

This was followed by a few more guest appearances with other artists, but in decreasing numbers.
