The Next Episode (English for: the next chapter ) is a song by the American rapper and music producer Dr. Dre , which he recorded with rappers Snoop Dogg , Kurupt and Nate Dogg . The song is the third single from his second studio album in 2001 and was released on July 3, 2000.

background

The Next Episode refers in part to the classic Nuthin 'but a' G 'Thang , which was the first single from Dr. Dr's debut album The Chronic was from 1992 and which he also recorded with Snoop Dogg. On this track, Snoop Dogg raps “ just chill, 'till the next episode ” at the end . Another version of the song was originally supposed to appear on Snoop Dogg's debut album Doggystyle under the title Tha Next Episode , but has been discarded.

The song is also mistakenly known as Smoke Weed Everyday , as Nate Dogg says this prompt at the end of the piece.

Thematically, the title is a party song in which Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre glorify themselves, their music and their lives, as well as glorify cannabis use . In the intro, Snoop Dogg and Kurupt announce that Dr. Dre was back and the listener should light a joint while listening to the song. In the first verse, Snoop Dogg asks the listener to dance and raps that he is enjoying his life to the fullest, making sexist allusions to women. He describes himself as the "Father of Rap" and doesn't take other people's opinions into account. Dr. Dre describes himself in the second verse as "King of the Beats" and raps about sex , drug and alcohol consumption . He is number one and is one of the best artists of the century. The outro is sung by Nate Dogg, who announces the next chapter and calls the listener to every day grass to smoke.

Production and sample

The music was provided by Dr. Dre produced in collaboration with Mel-Man . They used a sample of The Edge by David McCallum .

Dr. Dr's text was mostly written by the rapper Hittman .

Paul Hunter directed the video for The Next Episode .

It is set in a night club that has a party where scantily clad women dance on poles. Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Kurupt and Nate Dogg rap on the second floor of the club and in some scenes appear next to the women while they slip them money. The rapper Xzibit can also be seen in the video.

Chart successes and awards

The Next Episode reached number 34 in the German charts and stayed in the top 100 for 16 weeks. The song was particularly successful in the UK, where it was ranked 3rd.

The Next Episode 2018 received a gold record in Germany for more than 250,000 sales . In 2017, the single was awarded a platinum record for over 600,000 units sold in the UK .
