Brian Harvey (2007)

Brian Lee Harvey (born August 8, 1974 in Edmonton (in Enfield , London )) is the former front man of the British boy band East 17 .

East 17

From 1992 Harvey was successful with the band East 17 .

Harvey already knew the rest of the band members from school and had applied for the band as a background singer and dancer . However, when the recording staff at the record company heard him sing, they made him the band's front man; his voice became the trademark of East 17. This led to conflicts between him and the band's founder and main songwriter, Tony Mortimer , who saw himself pushed into the background. There was also disagreement about the style of music. While Mortimer wrote songs in a pop / hip-hop style, Harvey and the other two band members tended towards R&B .

Downsides

In 1997 the band suddenly came to an end when Harvey spoke about the party drug Ecstasy in a radio interview . After these comments and due to pre-existing tension in the band, the band gave in to media pressure and expelled Brian Harvey. However, since Brian's voice was the band's trademark, he was eventually resumed. From then on, the group called itself E-17. After the end of E-17, Harvey signed a contract with Edel Records as a solo musician.

The following years were marked by two suicide attempts, a serious traffic accident and other low blows.

Solo career

In 2000 Harvey released "True Step Tonight", a duet with Donell Jones and the band Truesteppers. 2001 was followed by "Straight up no bends" and reached number 26 on the UK singles chart. In the same year "Loving You" followed, a project with Wyclef Jean . Both songs and thirteen other tracks are included on the album "Solo". Harvey appeared on TV shows, quiz shows and even I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! , the UK version of I'm a Celebrity - Get Me Out of Here! , on. After his traffic accident in 2005, the BBC aired an hour-long documentary about Harvey and his accident entitled "Being Brian Harvey".

In early 2007 Harvey entered the preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest with the ballad "I can" , but could not win it.

In the meantime, Harvey toured various clubs with his former bandmates. In February 2010, however, the band separated again. In March 2010, Harvey released his single "Going Backwardz".
