East 17 is a British boy band that was extremely successful as a kind of proletarian counter-draft to Take That in the 1990s . Named after their origin, the East End of London or the postcode for Walthamstow , they had a number of hits in Great Britain and Germany , including House of Love (1992), It's Alright (1993), Stay Another Day (1994), Thunder ( 1995) and If You Ever (1996) - a duet with the singer Gabrielle .
The group's career came to an abrupt end after a scandal over the drug abuse of singer Brian Harvey. Under the name E-17 , the boy band tried a comeback in 1998 , which, however, could not build on the earlier successes.
Comeback 2008–2012
On February 29, 2008 East 17 (line-up: Brian Harvey, John Hendy, Terry Coldwell) gave a German concert in the Düsseldorf night residence for the first time in many years. Due to the great success they came back to Germany for a club tour. Stops were Düsseldorf, Leipzig and Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Zugspitze).
On February 17th, 2010 Brian Harvey addressed his fans with a statement on east-17.de and confirmed the rumors about the final separation of the group. On April 24th, 2010 he gave a great Greatest Hits farewell concert in the Nightstyle Club in Mülheim / Ruhr. Harvey released his single Going Backwardz on March 7, 2012 .
The rest of the band wanted to continue, however. Since Brian Harvey allegedly did not show up for the band rehearsals, he was replaced by Blair Dreelan. In 2011 T-Mobile used the song House of Love , which made the band known to a new generation of fans. In April 2011, it was announced that East 17 would tour the UK with Blair Dreelan in August and September 2011 on the Back to the Future Tour to promote their comeback single Secret of My Life . The single reached 20th place in the UK charts. On September 28, 2011 Dreelan left the group due to other contractual obligations.
East 17's fifth studio album, Dark Light , was released in 2012, along with a new single, I Can't Get You Off My Mind .
On November 7, 2015, the band performed a half-hour show at the 90s mega party in Ingolstadt. On June 28, 2019 the band performed at the Rheingaudi Festival in Rheinfelden . At the amusement park festival Skyline Park bei Nacht on August 14, 2019 in Unterallgäu , Bavaria , the group performed at a best-of concert.
