Ouest (German "West") is a department in the south of Haiti . It borders the Dominican Republic in the east and covers an area of ​​4893  km² . The island of Gonâve also belongs to this department .

In 2015 the population was estimated at around 4,030,000. A good half of the inhabitants of the department live in the state capital Port-au-Prince and its suburbs.
