Petit-Goâve is a municipality in the Arrondissement of Léogâne in the Ouest department in Haiti . It is located 68 kilometers southwest of Port-au-Prince . The city had a population of around 124,000 in 2015. It is one of the oldest cities in the country and was called Goâve by the indigenous people of Haiti. The Spaniards called it Aguava at the end of the 16th century. After the French colonization, the French divided the city into two halves: Grand-Goâve and Petit-Goâve. Petit-Goâve became a wealthy settlement and briefly acted as the de facto capital of the wealthy colony of Saint-Domingue . The city is also famous for its sweets called douce macoss .

It was severely affected by the January 12, 2010 earthquake. The US Geological Survey reported that the epicenter of the quake was almost exactly below Petit-Goâve. It is estimated that around 1000 people in Petit-Goâve were killed in the quake.
