Nippes is a department on the Tiburon Peninsula in Haiti . Its capital is Miragoâne . It is mainly located on the Gulf of Gonâve on the Tibouran Peninsula (north coast). It covers an area of ​​1268  km² and has around 343,000 inhabitants (as of 2015).

history

The Nippes department came into being in 2003 when the arrondissements of Miragoâne , Anse-à-Veau and Baradères split from the Grand'Anse department and Nippes was founded as a new department. This makes it the youngest of the ten Haitian departments.

Level of the districts (arrondissement)

There are three districts (arrondissement) in the department :

• Arrondissement de Miragoâne (with 4 municipalities):
  1. Miragoâne ( port city )
  2. Petite-Rivière-de-Nippes
  3. Fonds-des-Nègres
  4. Paillant
• Arrondissement d'Anse-à-Veau (with 5 municipalities):
  1. Anse-à-Veau (port city)
  2. L'Asile
  3. Petit-Trou-de-Nippes
  4. Plaisance-du-Sud
  5. Arnaud
• Arrondissement de Barradères (with 2 municipalities):
  1. Barradères (to the west of the Dept.)
  2. Grand Boucan
