Ray BLK's real name Rita Ekwere (* in Nigeria , grew up in London ) is a singer and songwriter .

biography

Rita Ekwere was born in Nigeria and came to London when she was four, where she grew up in Catford. She has been making music since she was nine years old. Her first EP, Havisham , came out in 2015 while studying English literature. The stage name Ray BLK was derived from Ray for her last name and BLK for Building, Living, Knowing.

In 2016 she won the contest for the BBC Sound of 2017 ahead of Rag 'n' Bone Man and Raye .
