action

Los Angeles is ruled by violent gangs and corrupt police officers. Former gang member Armando Sancho now works as a police officer at the side of his partner Salim Adel for an undercover special unit to combat gang crime at the Los Angeles Police Department . During a joint mission, an innocent old man is killed using the service weapon.

Not only since this incident has Sancho plagued his conscience, so that he is torn between morality and loyalty to his colleague. He decides at a forthcoming survey by the Internal Affairs against his for violence and corruption , however, testify equally receptive colleagues, changing his mind at the last second and will continue to benefit from his superior Captain Spain.

When Sancho and Adel receive a special assignment from their supervisor for which they should risk their necks and necks, Sancho fears that they would be linked by their supervisor to lose their lives in this operation instead of being able to testify against him. Your assignment is quite explosive: they should drive 13 kilograms of cocaine , which they are supposed to take from the evidence room, to the gang boss Baine in order to gain access to the underworld through him. He in turn sends them to some Canadian drug dealers who are threatening to undermine Baine's local drug monopoly. During the raid on the Canadian dealers, Adel was shot through in the leg.

Bleeding profusely, Adel is brought to a safe house by Sancho to treat the wound. There they are surprised by two more police officers from their precinct, whom Spain has set to kill Sancho and Adel. Instead, both are shot by the nobility.

Although the two were able to get out of this situation, Sancho was recognized by one of his former gang members during the raid and was now picked up. Sancho and Adel are interrogated to reveal where the gang's money stolen from the raid is now. Truthfully, Sancho says that he knows nothing about the whereabouts of the money, but Adel only admits to having hidden the money during a game of Russian roulette . In the course of this Russian roulette, Sancho is killed by his former gang member.

Adel is able to escape his tormentors when he is with them on the way to the hiding place of the money, which has already been discovered by the local police. He realizes that he has been manipulated and should have been killed when, when the drugs are returned to the evidence room, he is told that an examination of the cocaine revealed that it had been diluted with rat poison.

In order not to lose his job after the death of his partner, Adel agrees to the demands of his superior Captain Spain to make the statement that his killed partner Sancho was responsible for the corruption and the death of the two police officers.

In the final scene, Adel sits in his car and is shot by the gang members.

background

The filming of the film "Dirty", which had an estimated budget of three million US dollars , began on January 4, 2005. All locations were in Los Angeles . The film premiered at the American Film Institute festival on November 9, 2005. The film was released on DVD on June 23, 2006 in Germany . It was first seen on German free TV on February 20, 2010 on ProSieben . In the USA, the film grossed a good 270,000 US dollars, of which a good 40,000 US dollars was accounted for on the opening weekend.

The main roles of the two officers Salim Adel and Armando Sancho are based on real people. When Sancho and Adel raid the Canadian drug dealers, they play the video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas , in which Clifton Collins junior lent his voice to one of the main characters. The director Chris Fischer wanted to capture a mood in Los Angeles that gives the viewer the impression that the city is in a dry, desolate place where human life seems out of place. This was a great challenge because the shooting in the spring of 2005 fell in the rainiest time in Los Angeles history. For fear of legal proceedings, it was decided not to shoot near well-known sights. With "Gettin 'Dirty" a making-of of the film "Dirty" was published in 2006.

criticism

The editors of the Weser-Kurier saw with “Dirty” an “unconvincing action film” and judged: “Chris Fisher's action flick doesn't deliver much new or surprising, and the feeling that one already knows the story - and got it in» Training Day «told better."

Hasko Baumann from the editorial team of the film magazine Manifest sees the "clichéd police film story" as "gimmicky" and at the same time with "cheapest horror film effects". In addition, “Dirty” is “a collection of obnoxious characters. No identification figure, no tension. There is also no action [...] ”in the“ uninteresting and vulgar police film ”.
