It belongs to the Arrondissement of Clermont and the canton of Estrées-Saint-Denis (until 2015: canton of Maignelay-Montigny ). The inhabitants are called Tricotois .

Royaucourt is about 30 kilometers northwest of Compiègne . Royaucourt is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Mesnil-Saint-Georges in the north, Ayencourt in the north and northeast, Rubescourt in the east, Domfront in the southeast, Dompierre and Ferrières in the south and Welles-Pérennes in the west.
