Joe Higgs

Joe Higgs (born June 3, 1940 in Trenchtown , † December 18, 1999 in Los Angeles ) was a Jamaican reggae musician .

He is considered one of the co-founders of reggae, also because he had great influence as a teacher on the later reggae artists Bob Marley , Peter Tosh and Jimmy Cliff . In 1973 , Higgs toured the United States with Marley, Tosh and the Wailers as a background singer when Bunny Livingston refused to tour America. After the deaths of Marley and Tosh, Higgs also covered songs by his students. In his own songs, he primarily deals with living in poverty in Trenchtown ( Kingston ), where Higgs grew up.

Higgs died in 1999 a battle with cancer .
