Lone Ranger (* before 1960 in Kingston / Jamaica ; native Anthony Waldron ) is a reggae - Deejay . He had his greatest success in the early 1980s, but is still active as an entertainer. He borrowed his stage name from the Lone Ranger of the American radio and television series of the same name by Fran Striker .

Life

Lone Ranger was born in Kingston in the late 1950s and immigrated to Great Britain in the mid 1960s. 1971 came back to Jamaica again. He gained his first Deejay experience in 1974. Between 1976 and 1979 he was active for the Soul To Soul sound system and from 1980 for Virgo Hi Fi Sound .

His first recordings were made in 1979 for Clement "Coxsone" Dodd , including The Answer on the Never Let Go - Riddim by Slim Smith . The song became so popular that the riddim was only called Answer in the following years . It was around this time that the still ongoing boom began to take old riddims and put them back on with new vocal recordings, making the recordings for Coxsone sound like a who's who of classic riddims.

The final breakthrough came in 1980 with producer Alvin Ranglin and the hit Barnabas Collins , a humorous vampire story. The song drew a number of answers, including a. Me Kill Barnie from Yellowman . In the following years Lone Ranger recorded other albums, including a. for the labels Channel One and Techniques .

Hi Ho Silver Away was released in 1981 by the London label Greensleeves and made Lone Ranger known in Europe. After a weaker second album for Winston Riley's Techniques label called DJ Daddy in 1984, things got quieter for Lone Ranger - the competition from other, newer DJs such as Yellowman , Toyan , Josey Wales and Charlie Chaplin was too great.

As a living legend, Lone Ranger is still touring the world, occasionally releasing CDs and mainly recording dubplates for sound systems.

style

The scattered, screeched bim are characteristic of his spoken word! s, oink! s and Ribbit! s which was copied by many deejays in the following years.
