Buccaneer (musician)

Buccaneer (actually Andrew Bradford ; * 1974 in Jamaica ) is a Jamaican dancehall musician.

Life

Andrew Bradford grew up in Havendale , a suburb of Kingston . His mother let him learn piano and classical music at the time . The family later had to move to Waltham Park , one of Kingston's poorer neighborhoods. There began Bradford at local sound system as a deejay trying. A friend, inspired by a colorful pirate costume that Bradford wore at a performance, gave him the nickname Buccaneer (German: Bukanier ), which became his stage name.

Buccaneer developed a friendship with musician and producer Danny Browne in the early 1990s and spent time in King Jammy's studio, where he also worked with other producers. In 1995 Buccaneer's debut album Now There Goes The Neighborhood was released . But it was not until the following year that the breakthrough to success in Jamaica came with the single Skettel Concerto . With samples of classical music and Buccaneer's dramatic Singjay style, the song offered an idiosyncratic mixture. The piece appeared in 1997 along with other songs in a similar style, but also with very direct dancehall pieces, which also belong to Buccaneer's repertoire, on the next album Classic . In 1998, Da Opera followed Buccaneer's third album.

As a result, Buccaneer also worked as a music producer, but also continued to record his own songs or in collaboration with other dancehall artists, such as Bounty Killer , Mr. Vegas and the Scare Dem Crew .
