The Desert Rose Band was a country rock band from California .

Beginnings

In the mid-eighties, well-known musicians came together for casual bluegrass sessions in California . The central figure, Chris Hillman , was a founding member of the Byrds . He had also played with the Flying Burrito Brothers , Manassas and other groups. Bernie Leadon came from the Eagles , Al Perkins had already played with Hillman in the Souther Hillman Furay Band. Other musicians were James Burton and Bill Bryson. In 1986 the Desert Rose Band emerged from this group of outstanding instrumentalists. However, some jumped off in the early stages because they did not believe in commercial success. Al Perkins joined Dolly Parton and was replaced by Jay Dee Maness. John Jorgenson came on for Bernie Leadon. Finally, Hillman brought in his old companion, Herb Pedersen, who had already worked with numerous greats on the scene.

Career

Even though very high-profile musicians had come together to form the Desert Rose Band, it was not easy to find a record company. Some band members were already over forty years old. A contract was finally signed with the Nashville Curb label. Her first single, Johnnie And Jack, hit Ashes of Love , reached a middle spot in the country top 100 in 1987. The next three singles were decoupled from their debut album and consistently reached top 10 spots, with He's Back and I'm Blue moving up to number one.

Her second album, Running , is considered the highlight of her musical career. Another number 1 hit was produced with I Still Believe In You . Several successful singles were also released from the next album, Pages Of Life , in 1989. After that, sales decreased. The main reason was the poor promotion of the record company. The songs of the Desert Rose Band were rarely played on the radio, and their records were often not available in stores.

In 1992 there was a reshuffle. Some band members no longer wanted to take part in the grueling tours. Of the three leaders Hillman, Pedersen and Jorgenson (who were mostly the only ones shown on photos and record covers), John Jorgenson left and was replaced by Jeff Ross. Tim Grogan came for Steve Duncan and Tom Brumley for Jay Dee Maness. Three more albums were released, but they only sold poorly. In 1994 the Desert Rose Band broke up.
