Manassas (band)
Manassas was an American rock band formed by Stephen Stills in 1971.
Band history
Stills formed the band after working with some of the musicians on his solo album Stephen Stills 2 (1971) and the accompanying tour. As a rhythm guitarist , he won Chris Hillman , who had previously played bass with The Byrds and guitar with the Flying Burrito Brothers . Drummer Dallas Taylor had played with both Stills and Crosby, Stills, Nash (& Young) since 1969 . Stills named his band after the city of Manassas , Virginia , when he and his fellow musicians had their picture taken for a photo at the old Manassas train station. The photo is also the cover image of their first album of the same name, the majority of which were penned by Stephen Stills.
Manassas was released as a double LP in May 1972. The band then went on a tour that also took them through Europe . Stillsmet Véronique Sanson , whom he married in 1973, while on tour in Paris . After the second album Down The Road , the band broke up in late 1973. Hillman then joined the supergroup Souther-Hillman-Furay Band and also brought Harris, Lala and Perkins into the band. Meanwhile, Stills continued his solo career. In 2009 the record company Rhino Records put togetherthe album Pieces from the band's unreleased material.
