Dale Watson
Dale Watson (born October 7, 1962 in Birmingham , Alabama ) is an American singer of alternative country .
Life
Dale Watson moved to Texas , near Houston, when he was young . This shaped his style of music so strongly that he is often regarded as a representative of the original Texan country music. He grew up in a musical family and began writing his own songs and lyrics at the age of twelve. After attending high school, he worked and made music in local clubs and dance halls for several years. In 1988 he moved to Los Angeles and got an engagement with the band of the renowned Palomino Club .
In 1990 he recorded his first singles , which was followed by another in 1992. Although highly praised by the critics, these records remained relatively unsuccessful, so that he returned to Texas, Austin for a short stay as a composer in Nashville . After three years he released his debut album in 1995, which has now been followed by more every year. The style fluctuated between classic country and truck country songs. After the death of his fiancée in a car accident in 2000, there was a radical decline in drugs and alcohol, which resulted in an overdose just before Christmas. After barely surviving, he tried a new beginning and a musical comeback after a drug withdrawal.
The director Zalman King made two documentaries with him, which depict his life and his surroundings. In 2007 he was one of the leading US country singers with an astonishing number of engagements in Austin and Nashville. When he's not in other states or overseas, Watson performs all the time, especially in the Austin area. B. regularly on Mondays at the Continental Club in Austin. These concerts, which often last over three and a half hours, convey a living room atmosphere. His life's work was honored with induction into the Austin Music Hall of Fame .
In October 2011 he released the album “The Sun Sessions” with the band “The Texas Two”, an unmistakable homage to Johnny Cash. In 2012 he took on a role in the ensemble of the musical "Ghost Brothers of Darkland County", which was written by Stephen King and John Mellencamp .
