Hal Ketchum
Hal Ketchum (* 9. April 1953 in Greenwich , New York as Hal Michael Ketchum ) is an American country singer.
Beginnings
Hal Ketchum took over his enthusiasm for country music from his father, who played music himself and was a member of the Buck Owens fan club. At the age of fifteen, Hal was already playing for money in a rhythm and blues trio. After leaving school, he moved to Florida , where he worked as a carpenter for several years . He later moved to Austin , Texas , where he gained further musical experience in the local club scene. In the meantime he had switched from drums to guitar and also appeared as a singer. He also began to write his own songs.
Several times he tried to get into the country scene in Nashville . In 1986 he put together his own album, which was released under the name Threadbare Alibies on the Watermelon label.
Career
In 1988, the songwriter Pat Alger noticed him at a folk festival and gave him a job at a Nashville music publisher. A year later, a record deal with the Curb label was signed. The first album, Past The Point Of Rescue , was produced in 1992. The single Smalltown Saturday Night reached number two on the country charts. Further singles taken from this album were able to place in the top 10. The album itself was gilded. Some of the songs came from his pen, others he was involved as a co-author. He put together his own band, the Alibies , with which he went on extensive tours.
His second album, Sure Love , which was released in 1992 , wasn't quite as successful, although some singles made it into the top 10. In 1994 he became a member of the Grand Ole Opry . However, his sales figures steadily decreased. In 1995 he had another top 10 hit with Stay Forever . As a songwriter he was still successful. Several of his compositions have been adopted by top stars. He also wrote the soundtrack for various films. New albums were released at regular intervals.
