action

At the wedding of her sister Joan in Rome, the New York exhibition curator Beth meets the reporter Nick Beamon, who has also traveled from New York and a friend of the Italian groom. When she sees that Nick is kissing another woman, she gets drunk and goes into the Fontana d'amore and fishes out four coins and a poker chip. However, she does not yet know that she is holding the love of five men. Shortly after her return to New York, the diminutive sausage manufacturer Al Russo, the over-the-top street artist Lance, the conceited model Gale and the chaotic artist Antonio Donatella made advances. During a phone call with her sister and her husband, she learns that she has to throw the coins back into the well in order to end the whole haunt.

Since the centerpiece of Beth's exhibition is missing, Nick offers her that she can have the photo of him during the lightning strike for the exhibition. As the other men approach, Nick and Beth get closer. When she sees the same poker chips in Nick's apartment as the one she fished out of the well, she leaves Nick, confused, and also rejects the picture. On the evening of the exhibition, the four men come to Beth's apartment and Beth tells them that she loves Nick. In the meantime she has learned that the love spell can also be overridden by personally returning the coins. Now that the coins are at her place of work, she drives to the Guggenheim Museum with her four admirers. Due to a severe thunderstorm, the traffic lights have failed throughout the city and there is a constant traffic jam. Squeezed into a tiny Italian car, the troop make it to the Guggenheim. Once there, Beth Stacy explains that this love is not real because the men had no other choice. Meanwhile, Nick walks up Fifth Avenue to the Guggenheim. Beth, who has already given everyone her coins, has to run after the poker chip as it rolls down the ramp of the Guggenheim Museum. When it arrives at the bottom, Nick picks it up. Beth, who still believes Nick is "bewitched", expects Nick to wake up. But when he confesses his love to her, she believes him.

Just as Beth is getting ready for her wedding with Nick, she learns from Lance that he had given her the wrong chip back and that Nick is still “bewitched”. Beth then breaks off the wedding and gives Nick the real poker chip back. Nick explains to her that he never threw a poker chip into the well. It turns out that the poker chip belonged to Father Leo, who wavered in faith. Then Beth and Nick kiss in the well.

criticism

  • The lexicon of international films saw a "(s) chale romantic comedy that suffers from the poorly constructed plot and the poor expression of the leading actors' play."
  • The German online film portal Filmstarts thinks that the comedy has a rather unintended 60s influence and therefore does not seem up-to-date.

Awards

Josh Duhamel and Kristen Bell were nominated for the Actor Romantic Comedy and Actress Romantic Comedy categories of the 2010 Teen Choice Awards, respectively .
