Production and broadcast

United States

In May 2012, NBC announced that it had ordered a series of 13 episodes about the US president. It was also announced that former US President Barack Obama's speechwriter Jon Lovett would star in the series. Josh Gad came up with the idea for the series. Director of the pilot episode was Jason Winer. These three also acted as executive producers.

The first episode of the series aired on December 17, 2012 after the airing of the third season finale of The Voice . This episode saw 6.88 million viewers. The regular broadcast then began on January 10, 2013, where it ran on Comedy Thursday following Das Büro . The third broadcast episode of the series, however, only saw 3 million viewers, which led to a rating of 1.2. The audience ratings for the subsequent episodes remained at this low level.

In May 2013 NBC announced the cancellation of the series due to the low ratings.

Germany

In Germany, the pay TV channel ProSieben Fun has broadcast the series in double episodes since May 25, 2014.

reception

Loryn Pörschke from Serienjunkies describes the series as follows: “Anyone who makes friends with gags like armchairs flying out of the window will have fun with the 1600 Penn series . The actors do the rest to win over the audience. Still, you have to be aware that 1600 is in a different league than Modern Family and Veep . It's a feel-good family series where at the end of the day everyone stands up for each other and stands together - light entertainment to make you laugh with surprisingly little real political issues given the involvement of a former speechwriter for the US president. "

Remarks

Originally, Brittany Snow planned as an actress for the role of Becca, but it was Martha MacIsaac replaced. Bill Pullman , who played the president on the show, had already played the president in the movie Independence Day .
