You Kill Me is an American comedy thriller from the year 2007 . Directed by John Dahl , the script was written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely .

action

Frank Falenczyk ( Ben Kingsley ) is a hit man in his Polish mafia family in Buffalo , New York . He's an alcoholic, and when he screws up an assignment that throws his family into serious trouble, his uncle Roman Krzeminski, who runs the family's affairs, decides to send him to San Francisco to tackle his drinking problem. He is pushed into a job at an undertaker and goes to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings , where he also talks about his job and that he has to fight his addiction in order to get his jobs done properly.

He falls in love with the manager Laurel Pearson, whom he meets at a funeral service. An up-and-coming Irish gang is now threatening the family business in Buffalo and, as the situation escalates and nearly his entire family is killed by the Irish gang, Frank feels called back. Together with Laurel, he goes to fight the Irish gang. In the end he kills Edward O'Leary, the head of the Irish family, with several shots. Frank continues to go to Alcoholics Anonymous and has been dry since that event. Despite his past, Frank and Laurel remain a couple.

Reviews

Ronnie Scheib wrote in Variety magazine on April 30, 2007 that the film successfully combined the elements of a romantic comedy and a thriller. The scenes from the Alcoholics Anonymous meetings in particular would be remembered.

Awards

Ben Kingsley was nominated for the Satellite Award in 2007. The film received the Prism Award in 2008 , for which Ben Kingsley was also nominated.

The world premiere took place on February 9, 2007 at the European Film Market . On April 28, 2007, the film was shown at the Tribeca Film Festival , which was followed by the Cannes International Film Festival on May 18, 2007 and later several other film festivals. On June 22, 2007, the film was released in selected cinemas in the United States, where it grossed around 2.4 million US dollars.
