Going the Distance (Original title: Mad About You ) is a 1992 to 1999 by Paul Reiser and Danny Jacobson produced comedy series .

In 2019, the American streaming service Spectrum announced a one-time sequel that should only include a new season. The new season of "Mad About You" (original title) sheds light on modern married life through the eyes of Paul and Jamie Buchman. The pair struggle with an empty nest after handing over their hard-to-control daughter, Mabel, to college. It is currently unclear whether the new season will also be shown in Germany.

The series is about Jamie and Paul Buchman, a couple who live in Manhattan with their dog Murray . Paul is a documentary filmmaker, Jamie works in public relations .

The series describes the ups and downs of the newly married couple's coexistence, from everyday trifles to a full-blown marriage crisis. Towards the end of the series, Paul and Jamie's daughter Mabel is born.

In the USA

The series ran from 1992 to 1999 on the US network NBC and comprises seven seasons. She has received multiple Golden Globe and Emmy nominations and several of those awards.

In 2019 a twelve-part sequel to "Crazy About You" was announced by the streaming provider Spectrum in the USA. The twelve-part miniseries will be broadcast in two six-part blocks. The first six episodes went online on November 20, 2019. The final six episodes will follow on December 18, 2019.

In Germany, the series ran in the night program on RTL and VOX and later in the evening section of the children's channel NICK , which was called NICK Comedy until the comedy section was discontinued .

From January 15, 2007, the first four seasons were broadcast on the then new station Comedy Central Germany .

From 2010 all seasons ran on Sat.1 Comedy . From December 2010, EinsFestival showed four episodes a week.

With Crazy About Dir - Collection (an annotated collection of the 22 favorite episodes of the two main actors) and the complete first and second season, only a small part of the material has been published on DVD . In the US, too, only five of the seven seasons have been released with long breaks.

Relation to other NBC series

It is worth mentioning a supporting role in the first three seasons, as well as in the last episode. Lisa Kudrow acted as a clumsy waitress named Ursula Buffay who works at the place where Jamie and Paul spend most of their time when they are away from home. When Kudrow appeared as one of the main characters, Phoebe Buffay, in the series Friends later that evening , Ursula was made her twin sister. Helen Hunt (as Jamie) and Leila Kenzle (as Fran) also made a guest appearance on Friends in the 16th episode of the first season .

In the eighth episode of the first season ( The Apartment , German title: Die Junggesellenbude ) Michael Richards has a guest appearance as Cosmo Kramer from Seinfeld . He lives in Paul's bachelor apartment, which, to Jamie's chagrin, he has not given up yet. In a scene in the corridor in front of that apartment, Paul Kramer asks:

In the sixth episode of the third season ( Pandora's Box , Die Schwarzseher ), Jamie triggers a power failure in New York City, the effects of which were seen in broadcasts of episodes of the series Friends and Madman of the People that same evening .
