The film is starring, among others, Uma Thurman and Keanu Reeves with.

Sissy Hankshaw has had big thumbs since she was born. She hitchhikes a lot as an adult. Sissy becomes a photo model and works for Countess, who markets hygiene products. Her agent sends her to the Rubber Rose Ranch beauty center, where she meets quirky characters like Chink and Bonanza Jellybean.

Sissy and Bonanza start a relationship. Bonanza leads a women's group that is taking control of the center.

The film was shot in Oregon . It premiered in September 1993 at the Toronto Film Festival . The production cost about 8 million US dollars ; the film grossed $ 1.71 million in US cinemas.

For the lexicon of international film , Even Cowgirls Get the Blues was "an atmospheric film adaptation of a cult novel of the 70s that cleverly mixes grotesque, melancholy and uninhibitedly silly elements into a modern fairy tale". It is a "fascinating film with an unusual cosmos of images".

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times that comedy was one of the emptiest, most punchless and incomprehensible films he could remember.

Joe Brown criticized the script in the Washington Post . The talents of Lorraine Bracco, Angie Dickinson and Sean Young are wasted.

Uma Thurman and Sean Young were nominated for the Golden Raspberry in 1995 .
