action

Walt, a shop assistant in a corner shop, has fallen in love with a young Mexican: Johnny, as everyone in Oregon calls him, doesn't seem to care. Much more important to him is how he gets by with his friends Pepper and the others. Because it is illegal in the USA - the money is barely enough for the meager room in a youth hostel.

Walt openly tries to get the teenager's sympathy. At the same time he knows about his hunger and suffering, so he tries to win Johnny's interest by an invitation to dinner. Together with his good friend Betty, he invites the three Mexicans to dinner. You have a nice evening. But when Walt drives the boys to the youth hostel in the pouring rain, he becomes intrusive and offers 15 dollars for a night together with his loved one. He cancels. But Pepper doesn't want to miss the money and spends the night with Walt.

There are days when Walt hardly sees Johnny, other days when the boy hangs out in front of his shop all the time. One day he disappeared. From now on, Walt takes care of Pepper, whom he lets live with him, not without asking for something in return. When Johnny doesn't return, Walt becomes more and more restless. In addition, Pepper becomes seriously ill, but can recover with Walt's help. An accident occurs during a police raid: Pepper is shot.

When Johnny finally returns, he doesn't want to believe in his friend's death. He insults Walt as a "fagot" and "hooker" and disappears again.
