Reviews

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times on May 21, 2004 that the plot was similar to the plot of a soap opera . Some scenes are confusing; the film seems like a collection of the director's notes. The representations are strong, but the style of the dialogues would weaken their effect.

Sheri Linden described the film in The Hollywood Reporter magazine on May 7, 2004 as an " unfulfilled promise ". The central love story is not interesting enough. The portrayal of Jonathan Tucker was praised as " fresh " and " convincing ". Rachael Leigh Cook brings " restlessness " into her rather clichéd role.

Peter Travers scoffed in Rolling Stone magazine on May 18, 2004 that the plot contained more sub-strings than an entire season of the television series OC, California . He praised the portrayal of Jonathan Tucker as " very good " (" very fine ").
