Diane Venora

Diane Venora (* 10. August 1952 as Diana Venora in Hartford , Connecticut ) is an American actress .

Life

After her youth in Hartford, Diane Venora attended the prestigious Juilliard School of Drama and made a reputation for herself as a stage actress and as an excellent Shakespeare interpreter. A highlight of her stage career was the portrayal of Hamlet at the New York Shakespeare Festival in 1983 .

At the same time, she played various supporting roles in film and television before delighting critics and audiences in Clint Eastwood's Bird (1988) in the role of Chan Parker . She received the New York Film Critics Award for her portrayal and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award .

Venora has a daughter with director and cameraman Andrzej Bartkowiak ( Speed ) , but the couple soon separated. She focused on raising her child for several years before returning to acting in the early 1990s. Since then she has drawn attention to herself, especially with the portrayal of strong female characters such as Justine Hanna in Heat (1995), Major Koslova in The Jackal (1997) and Queen Weilew in The 13th Warrior (1999).
