The Pagemaster - Richies fantastic journey (original title: The Pagemaster ) is an American fantasy - animated film from the year 1994 .

action

Richard "Richie" Tyler is a little boy in love with statistics and safety who disappoints his father that he is too scared to do anything with him. So Richie vehemently refuses to climb into the tree house that his father built for him. He avoids any risk and accordingly has no friends who want to play with him. When he is riding his bike on the street alone, a storm breaks out. Richie looks for shelter as soon as possible and finds him in the library of Mr. Dewey, the pagemaster. He wants to call his parents from there. But on the way to the phone, Richie hits her head and faints. When he wakes up at night, it doesn't take long until he is followed by a color monster, which turns him into a cartoon character and sends him into the cartoon world. There he meets the Pagemaster, who sends him on an adventure trip into the world of books.

Little by little he meets talking books that are called adventure, fantasy and horror and accompany them from now on. Richie himself is not interested in the adventure and just looks for the exit. Instead, horror leads him through the house of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde . Jekyll welcomes the guest in a friendly manner, but quickly transforms into Mr. Hyde, demolishes his house and almost takes horror with him into the abyss. Richie just stands there and can't save him out of sheer fear, so that fantasy and adventure have to intervene. Richie only brings up his first courage when it comes to saving his own skin. But at least the exit seems to be visible. So Richie follows the sign and ends up with the three books on the sea, where they witness Captain Ahab how this Moby-Dick hunts. When they are attacked by Moby Dick and their boat is destroyed, they save a couple of pirates who bring them on board Long John Silver's ship . This takes them prisoner and brings them to an island, where they suspect a huge gold treasure. But that doesn't exist, which is why the pirates mutiny and Richie and Adventure are in danger. But thanks to the heroic use of horror and fantasy, they can be saved. They're just stuck on the island now.

However, Fantasy notices that her wand suddenly works again, which is why everyone can travel through several fairy tale worlds. On the way they meet Humpty Dumpty before they see the exit sign. However, they have to go through a hell that suddenly turns into a fire-breathing dragon and chases all four. On the run, Richie manages to get to the exit, but because his three books are trapped, he gathers all courage and weapons lying around to defend them against the dragon. However, Richie is swallowed by him and can only escape from the inside of the dragon thanks to a climbing plant. This grows up steeply so that he and his three books finally come to the exit. There he meets the Pagemaster, who explains to him that he has finally overcome the fear. Then Richie wakes up in the library, borrows adventure, fantasy and horror, which he then reads in the tree house while he sleeps there.
