Scully is investigating the UFO found on the Ivory Coast when she sees an African native in her tent, who immediately disappears. Shortly afterwards her entire tent is populated by insects. In the US, Director Skinner visits Mulder at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Mulder still seems out of his mind, but he secretly slips Skinner a cry for help. Scully gets support from Merkmellen's colleague Dr. Amina Ngebe, warning Scully about her appearance. Soon, mysterious things happen and then Dr. Barnes added. At Mulder's behest, Skinner contacts Michael Kritschgau and takes him to Mulder. With the help of a drug, Kritschgau succeeds in lowering Mulder's brain activities so that he can speak again. Mulder points out Fowley's connections with the cancer candidate. In Africa, Scully and Dr. Barnes deciphered parts of the inscriptions on the UFO, but Barnes grew stranger and prevented Scully and Ngebe from leaving. He then notices that the UFO brings dead fish back to life, whereupon the two women knock him down and flee. On the run, Scully has apparitions of the unknown stranger again. Kritschgau and Skinner test Mulder's brain activity and drug him again, but Fowley disturbs them and Mulder has a seizure. Barnes kills his driver in an experiment, but he rises and kills him. Scully comes back to the USA, visits Mulder, while Ngebe arrives in Africa with the police on the beach, finds the body of Barnes, but at the same time has to discover that the UFO has disappeared.

One after the other, Teena Mulder and cancer candidate Fox visit Mulder in the hospital, who is still paralyzed. The Cancer Candidate gives him a drug that brings Fox back to his senses, and the Cancer Candidate explains that he is his father and takes Mulder with him from the hospital. Kritschgau explains to Scully that Mulder's contact with the part of the UFO activated the black oil in him again (see season 4, episode 9) and thus Mulder is proof of extraterrestrial life. Skinner tells Scully that Teena picked her son up from the hospital, but she only signed the discharge papers. Meanwhile, Mulder is taken by the cancer candidate to a house in an unknown neighborhood, where he meets his former informant Deep Throat, who claims to have only staged his death. Fox eventually meets Fowley and the two become intimate. Scully finds out that it was not Teena but the cancer candidate that took Fox out of the hospital and then gets mailed a book about Native American beliefs. She visits Kritschgau again and finds out that he has hacked her PC, she deletes the data and leaves his apartment. Meanwhile, Mulder meets his sister Samantha, marries Fowley, and has children with her. Years go by and Fowley dies and it turns out he's only dreamed it all. He is in a government facility and is being examined by doctors while Fowley and the cancer candidate watch him. The cancer candidate finally wants to have parts of Mulder's meninges transplanted, he believes Mulder is a human-alien hybrid that will survive the coming attack by the aliens. In his dream, Mulder, the cancer candidate who is not aging, tells him that everyone else has died. When the cancer candidate looks out of the window, one sees the apocalyptic destruction of the earth by the aliens. Back in reality: Krycek kills Kritschgau and steals his laptop. Scully meets Albert Hosteen in a dream and when she wakes up again, a stranger gives her an access card to the facility where Mulder is. She goes into the facility and takes Mulder out. She meets with Mulder a week later and tells him that Fowley was found dead while telling her about the death of Albert Hosteen.

In Costa Mesa, California, a young man is murdered in a fast food restaurant. His brainless body is found, so Scully and Mulder are asked to help the police with the investigation. The only clue is an employee button that is found in the restaurant and the only employee who cannot show his button is Derwood Spinks, who has a criminal record. Mulder, however, believes that the victim's brain was removed from a trunk and suspects Rob Roberts, an associate. Rob is a mutant who hides his looks under a disguise and eats brains. When his landlady Sylvia is observed by a sniffer, he kills this too and devours the brain, making his desire more and more uncontrolled. Spinks blackmailed Rob with evidence of the murder in the restaurant, which is why Rob later kills too. In an interview with a psychologist, Rob speaks of an eating disorder, and she sends him to the Overeaters Anonymous. Before the meeting, Rob is put under pressure again by the agents who are on him. At the OA meeting he meets Sylvia, with whom he then goes home together, but then eats her and discards her body. In order to cover up traces, he destroys his apartment with Spinks' baseball bat and Rob tells the agents as Spinks as the perpetrator. The psychologist visits him and sees that Rob is packing his things to leave. After a heated discussion, Rob reveals who he really is, she shows understanding for him. Former FBI agent Raymond Crouch was buried in Tallahassee, Florida on December 21, 1999. Mark Johnson offers condolences to the widow and tells her that he worked with her late husband. After all the mourners have left the funeral hall, Johnson goes to the open coffin, removes the suit from the corpse, which he then puts on himself, and places a cell phone in the coffin. A week later, Johnson observes the grave and suddenly the cell phone rings and he goes to the grave with a shovel. Scully and Mulder are later assigned to investigate the empty grave. You can see that the coffin has been damaged from the inside. Skinner tells agents that Crouch's grave and the graves of three other former agents have been desecrated, and that all four men committed suicide. A circle of goat blood is secured around the grave, so Mulder believes there is a necromancy. After another meeting, Skinner instructs the two agents to continue investigating v. a. Crouch's possible connections to the now disbanded Millennium Group are to be revealed. Mulder and Scully visit Frank Black (protagonist of the series Millennium ) in a psychiatric hospital in Virginia , who initially does not want to help them because he fears that ties to the Millennium group could negatively affect his custody battle. But finally he agrees and explains that the four members of the group believed that their suicide could prematurely herald the end of the world. Johnson is stopped by the police with a flat tire when the officer discovers Crouch's body in the car and tries to arrest Johnson, he is killed by a resurrected Crouch. With the help of Black's information, Mulder concentrates on finding Johnson, while Scully is attacked by the dead police officer, but is rescued by Johnson, but Johnson disappears. Then they chase Johnson together. After breaking into Johnson's house, Mulder is locked in the basement by the latter, where the corpses of the four dead FBI agents attack him. One he can kill, two more are killed by Black after he has tied up Johnson. Eventually Scully shows up and kills the last zombie as well. At the clinic, Black meets his daughter, and Scully and Mulder see the beginning of 2000 in front of a television set in the clinic and kiss.

In the woods of Pittsfield, Virginia, Tony Reed meets two other teenagers at night, but they are disturbed by the deputy, who is shortly afterwards killed with his own flashlight. Scully and Mulder inspect the body and discover that the man was killed by a single, but very powerful, blow. They interrogate Reed, whose fingerprints were found on the flashlight, but he pretends to be innocent and does not seem to have such immense strength. They also interview the other two teenagers: Max Harden, the sheriff's son, and his girlfriend Chastity. The murder weapon later disappears from the evidence store without a trace. Only a quick, short shadow can be seen on the video from the surveillance camera, but it has the colors of high school. Then a high school teacher is mysteriously killed in the canteen. Max and the teacher had problems with each other, so Mulder believes Max has supernatural abilities that he uses to kill. Tony follows Chastity into a cave and comes into contact with a beam of light that gives him the same abilities as Max and Chastity. They can move faster than the human eye can see. Max collapses in the school canteen after the incident and is taken to the hospital. Scully found there based on the findings that his body is not only exhausted, but also shows signs of wear and tear, such as are typical for a football player due to high stress. Chastity brings Max from the hospital to the cave. The sheriff finds the flashlight in his son Max's closet, but then he suddenly appears and tries to kill his father. Tony prevents this with the use of his new powers. The three teenagers meet again in the cave, where Chastity finally fires a shot that first kills Max and then her. Tony arrives at the hospital and the cave is filled with concrete, which prevents anyone from finding out how the teenagers came to the extraordinary powers.

149 10 Old souls - part 1 Being and time (1) Feb 6, 2000 Dec 11, 2000 Michael Watkins Chris Carter, Frank Spotnitz
Mulder takes an interest in the kidnapping case of little Amber Lynn LaPierre, who was abducted from her Sacramento home. Skinner believes the case is not an X-File and refuses to be investigated. But Mulder finally succeeds in convincing his superior. The parents claim to have found a note in their daughter's room, but the opening credits show that the mother wrote the message. Santa Claus is mentioned in the note, this does not fit the case and causes great amazement. Mulder doesn't believe the parents had anything to do with the child's disappearance, and finds a similar message in the archives with a reference to Santa Claus. In the Idaho case from 1987, the mother was sentenced to 12 years in prison. She reported about visions that she had shortly before her child disappeared. Amber Lynn's father had such visions. Mulder's mother commits suicide, the reasons for this are initially unclear. Mulder visits the convicted mother, who tells him that his sister Samantha is a visitor to save children from suffering. Therefore, Mulder now believes that his mother knew more about his sister's abduction and therefore died, but Scully can report after an autopsy that his mother suffered from severe cancer. A man runs a Christmas theme park and films children with a camera. Mr. LaPierre tells Mulder of another vision in which his daughter spoke the number 74. On the way to the airport on California State Route 74, Scully notices the theme park. There they find video recordings of Amber Lynn and arrest the operator of the park, in the process they come across numerous graves.

In Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Walter Skinner is protected by Dr. James Scobie, who is supposed to testify in a lawsuit against his former employer Morley Tobacco. Scobie has a severe cough, which he ignores, but is found dead the next morning, his face partially eaten away. Morley created a tobacco plant on which a genetically modified tobacco beetle lives, whose eggs survive being processed into cigarettes and are spread through the smoke. Scobie and his former colleague Dr. Voss led a group with test subjects. Three of the four test subjects died, only chain smoker Darryl Weaver survived. Scobie and Voss supplied Weaver with cigarettes in return, he said nothing about the tests. A number of people fall victim to the smoke, causing the eggs to enter the lungs and then develop into beetles that eat the body. Mulder is also a victim after an interrogation with Weaver. His lungs are extensively cleaned, but not all eggs could be removed. Voss gets a remorse and reveals himself to Skinner, who then looks for Weaver. In Weaver's apartment he only finds a gagged man, after he has removed the gag, countless bugs pour out of his mouth. Scully is now in a hurry to find a way to save Mulder, because the balls in his lungs are still in mortal danger. Skinner eventually finds Weaver, who threatens him with lighting a cigarette. When Weaver tries to escape, Skinner shoots him and incapacitates him. Scully believes nicotine could kill the beetles and is right because its high nicotine levels killed the eggs. Mulder survives and will get better, but he is now mildly craving nicotine, but Scully warns him not to start smoking.

In Hoffman's apartment, the investigation comes across numerous forgeries that Hoffman must have made. In the catacombs you will find more bones and pottery shards. The shards fit the myth of the Lazarus pot. There are grooves on the pot that contain a sound recording. Mulder has them taken to the expert Chuck Burks. In one recording, a male voice prompts another man to rise from the dead. The second recording contains the lyrics of "I am the Walrus" by the Beatles. O'Fallon says he bought the pot from Hoffman and believed it was a real sound recording of Jesus Christ. During the autopsy, Scully believes that Hoffman has risen and is speaking to her, in church she later sees him hanging on the crucifix. When Mulder tries to arrest O'Fallon for the murder of Hoffman, Hoffman appears unharmed in the church and reports that he is the reincarnation of Jesus. Skinner puts Scully and Mulder on leave after the mess. A little later, O'Fallon kills Hoffman with an extended suicide. The X-File remains unsolved. During their leave of absence, Scully and Mulder visit the film set, Feldman films the unsolved case, Garry Shandling plays Mulder in the film, Tea Leoni plays Scully. They watch the finished film with Skinner, but are disappointed with her and the case being represented. After the movie, Scully and Mulder go hand in hand for a romantic dinner ...

In Washington DC, Mulder receives a call from Billy Miles of Bellefleur. Miles was kidnapped seven years ago when Scully and Mulder were investigating there [see Season 1, Episode 1]. Billy tells of Hoee's disappearance and fears the kidnappings will start again. The agents come to Bellefleur and meet Billy, who is now also a police officer, later they meet Det. Miller, but do not notice that it is the alien bounty hunter who has assumed the form of Billy's father after he killed him . Scully finds three shell casings at the site of Hoee's disappearance, and later they talk to Hoee's wife, who, to her surprise, is Theresa Nemman, who was also kidnapped in 1993. While they are working through files, Scully suddenly falls ill. During the night they are called to Theresa's house, she has disappeared and Billy is worried because Scully is feeling bad. The agents later investigate the crash site, Scully is thrown into the air by unknown forces, and Mulder finds her almost unresponsive. At home, Billy meets the alien bounty hunter in the form of his father. He draws his weapon but then puts it down, whereupon the bounty hunter reveals his true form. At that moment Scully and Mulder arrive too, but they can't find the two men. The agents return to Washington DC, where they meet Skinner, Krycek, and Marita. Marita reports that the smoker is dying and wants to find the UFO to revitalize the project. Krycek explains that the UFO is hidden under an invisible energy field. Together with the lone shooters they find the position of the UFO. Mulder is concerned about Scully's health and doesn't want her to accompany him to Oregon. She doesn't want to let him go alone, so Skinner and Mulder travel to Oregon together. Scully and the Lone Gunner continue their research and suspect that Mulder is in great danger should he approach the UFO. Scully then becomes very sick and is taken to the hospital by the riflemen. Mulder and Skinner search for the UFO and Mulder walks through the energy field and finds a group of abductees, including Billy and Theresa, in the beam of light from a UFO. Mulder disappears with the group while a stunned skinner watches the UFO disappear. In the Watergate complex, Krycek and Marita visit the smoker, who already knows about the failed plan. At the hospital, Scully tells Skinner that she is pregnant and that it must be kept a secret.
