action

In 1993, IRA fighter Collette McVeigh was hired by her brother Gerry, an important IRA member, to carry out an attack on the London Underground . However, the explosive device is discovered and Collette is arrested by the English secret service. The MI5 -Agent Mac persuaded by threatening to transfer them to the custody and to let her adopt six year old child when MI5 spy to Belfast return. In the Northern Irish city she is supposed to spy on the IRA cell around Gerry and her other brother Connor and report to Mac every Wednesday.

Upon her return from England, Collette is greeted by her family consisting of her son, her two brothers and her elder mother. Since the IRA wants to make sure that she did not become an English spy during the four days in detention, she has to undergo an internal IRA security check carried out by the sadistic Kevin Mulville.

Connor reveals to Collette about a planned assassination attempt against an agent of the RUC . On Wednesday she did not report to Mac as agreed; he has her arrested again, whereupon she informs him of the attack plan. She is released, but Connor forced her to take part in the attack. A member of the command, Brendan, eavesdrop on Collette on the phone with Mac shortly before the action and suspects the plot, but is shot and seriously injured in hospital by MI5 men. After Collette spoke to Mac on the phone and said that she would be killed herself if Brendan survived, Mac drives to the hospital. It remains to be seen whether Mac killed Brendan himself or Brendon died as a result of the gunshot wound.

After the unsuccessful assassination attempt, both Gerry and Kevin Mulville are aware that there is a spy in their unit. A paramilitary ceremony is held by IRA members at Brendan's funeral and street battles with the RUC ensue. Kevin begins the search for the informer, believing Collette's lies during an initial interview. Meanwhile, Mac realizes that another spy, far more important to the MI5 than Collette, is in their unit and that the MI5 will betray Collette to Kevin in order to protect the actual mole. During a second interview, Kevin begins to doubt Collette's statements. Mac falls in love with Collete and promises to get her and her son out of Belfast against the will of MI5 and to give them a new identity. A race against time begins. Mac can finally expose the other mole - it's the mother of Collette. To protect Collette, Mac calls the mother and informs her that the IRA is after Collette. Mac informs the mother that the MI5 has recruited Collette as an informant. To protect her daughter from the IRA, the mother sacrifices herself. She is picked up by Kevin Mulley and later found dead.

Mac comes to the next scheduled meeting. However, Collette appears in different clothes and with a dog and does not reveal himself to Mac. After waiting at the meeting point for some time, Mac returns to his vehicle. A car bomb deposited there in the meantime kills Mac. In the final scene, Collette drives away with her son and brother Connor.
