The Lac des Mille Lacs ( French for "lake of a thousand lakes") is a lake in the Thunder Bay District in the southwest of the Canadian province of Ontario .
The 40 km long lake is located south of Upsala . The lake is very indented and has numerous bays. It has a total area of 245.1 km². The maximum depth is 25 m. The Ontario Highway 17 runs past the lake on the north shore. The outflow of the lake is regulated at the Lac des Mille Lacs Dam . The Seine River drains the lake to the west. The following types of fish are caught in the lake: eyeglasses , Canadian pikeperch , largemouth bass , black bass , pike , American perch and herring vendace .
