Huma Qureshi (born July 28, 1986 in Delhi ) is an Indian actress who mainly works in Hindi films. She was nominated twice for the Filmfare Award and is one of the most promising newcomers.

Life

Huma Qureshi was born into a Muslim family. She has three brothers: Naeem Qureshi, Haseen Qureshi and Saqib Saleem. The latter has also been an actor since 2011. Her father Saleem Qureshi owns a restaurant called Saleem's ; her mother Ameena Qureshi, who comes from Kashmir , is a housewife.

After graduating from Delhi University with a degree in history, Qureshi began a career as a model and in theater. In 2008 she moved to Mumbai after being offered a role in the movie Junction , which didn't come off. She instead signed a two-year contract with Hindustan Unilever for television commercials. While filming a Samsung commercial, director Anurag Kashyap recognized her talent and offered her the role of Mohsin in his two-part crime drama Gangs of Wasseypur (2012). Her performance earned her multiple nominations, including two Filmfare nominations for Best Supporting Actress and Best Debut, Female . That same year, Qureshi starred in the romantic comedy Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana . In the horror thriller Ek Thi Daayan (2013) she embodied a witch alongside Emraan Hashmi . She received a lot of praise from critics for her performance. Her only film that hit theaters in 2014 was the romantic comedy Dedh Ishqiya , a sequel to Ishqiya , in which Vidya Balan starred . In the sequel, Qureshi can be seen alongside Madhuri Dixit , Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi . In 2015, Qureshi played the supporting role of a prostitute in the thriller Badlapur (with Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, among others ).
