Becoming Human is an eight-part British mystery series and a spin-off of the British television series Being Human . The main character of the series is the vampire Adam, who was already in the third season in episode two of Being Human . The series was initially only published as a web series on the website of the television broadcaster BBC Three , but was later shown in the evening program of the station. It was broadcast on BBC Three from January 30th to March 20th, 2011.
action
The series is about the young vampire Adam. Adam wants to go back to school and enrolls in Rathborne High School. There he meets Christa. This is a werewolf, but denies this when Adam asks her about it. Christa is also followed at every turn by the student Matt. Only later does Christa find out that Matt is a ghost. He is the student who disappeared without a trace some time ago and who is searched for with countless leaflets. Adam is immediately certain that Matt was murdered. Together, the three students go in search of Matt's killer.
As an outsider, Matt has had some enemies. Among them is z. B. the school bat Danny Curtis. He bullied Matt during his lifetime. Matt also looked into the girls' changing room through a slit in the door. He was watched by the blonde school beauty Brandy Mulligan. This originally comes from the Crompton family. The Crompton family is feared by all. There are many rumors of their bad deeds. Hence, Brandy Mulligan seems particularly suspicious. The strict PE teacher Mr. Swan also made life hell for Matt by making fun of him in PE class. Adam also the caretaker of the school is a mystery to Adam, he seems to appear everywhere. So Matt, Christa and Adam want to visit all suspects and find the murderer among them.
In addition to the search for the murderer, the three protagonists deal with their supernatural nature. The vampire Adam finds it very difficult to do without blood. He is particularly fond of the schoolgirl Brandy Mulligan. He would love to drink their blood. When Brandy is suspected of murdering Matt, only Christa can stop him from killing Brandy on the spot.
Mind Matt, on the other hand, has to put up with never aging. He will never grow up, but will keep his present form as a spirit. He also wanted to do and experience so much. However, this is no longer possible. In addition, it is difficult for him to accept that only supernatural beings can see and hear him. He can no longer communicate with his family. His unrequited love for Christa bothers him a lot and he believes that as a ghost he has no chance with her. In addition, Christa and Adam seem to be drawn to each other, which makes Matt very jealous.
The werewolf Christa has to live with the fact that she cannot control her behavior as a werewolf and that with every transformation there is a possibility that she will injure or kill people.
So three students support each other. Adam and Matt help Christa cope with the fact that she is a werewolf. For example, Adam shows Christa some tricks that make the werewolf less dangerous. Christa and Matt, however, help Adam control his thirst for blood better. Additionally, Adam and Christa Matt take away the loneliness that ghosts often feel.
characters
- Adam
Adam is a 46 year old vampire in the body of a 16 year old boy. The series Being Human shows that his father provided him with blood until his death so that he did not have to kill anyone. After his father dies, the werewolves George and Nina take care of him. Eventually Adam decides that he wants to leave George and Nina and move on alone. His path leads him to a high school in Becoming Human , where he meets the students Matt and Christa.
Since Adam is still stuck in puberty, he shows a sexualizing behavior. He always tries to keep his thirst for blood under control, which is very difficult for him.
Actor Craig Roberts describes Adam as a vampire who keeps talking about sex, but never had it. He wanted to appeal to the other students at school, but used words from his youth in the 80s and was then surprised when he got no reaction. In Rathborne High School he wanted to start a new chapter in life.
- Christa
Christa is a werewolf . She only recently became a werewolf and finds it difficult to accept it. After a night of transformation, Christa doesn't know what she did as a werewolf. She may have been peaceful or she may have killed her entire family. That scares her very much. Christa is one of the best students in the entire school and is very committed to social projects. However, after she was infected with the werewolf curse, she withdrew more and more.
Actress Leila Mimmack explains that Christa is a difficult, moody teenager who is very scared that he has become a werewolf. At first, she is not happy that she has to work with Adam and Matt. However, with their help, she finally begins to find herself. Both as a werewolf and as a teenager.
- Frosted
Matt is a ghost . He was murdered recently and is considered missing. However, it is unknown who murdered him. At school, Matt was an outsider. He was a victim of bullying and received little respect. Only the vampire Adam and the werewolf Christa can see him as a ghost. It turns out he was always in love with Christa. However, she hardly noticed him.
Actor Josh Brown describes Matt as a very insecure boy who doesn't know what to do and hardly speaks to anyone. He is a loner. In addition, he is so used to being ignored by everyone that he did not even notice that he died and became a ghost. Adam and Christa are the first to speak to him, which makes Matt very happy.
- Brandy Mulligan
Brandy Mulligan comes from the Crompton family, a family that people fear. There are countless gruesome myths and stories about the family, none of which, however, knows exactly which are true and which are false. Brandy's father, Jerry, is on trial for aggravated assault. However, nobody dares to testify against him. In order not to be associated with her family, Brandy Crompton changed her name to Brandy Mulligan.
- Danny Curtis
Danny Curtis is the school thug. He enjoys bullying other weaker students and is a friend of Brandy. He hides his own insecurity by bullying his classmates.
- Mr. Swan
Mr. Swan is the school's PE teacher. He doesn’t like his students, and he always teases them. Especially when, like Matt, they are not good at physical education.
- Mr. Roe
Mr. Roe is a teacher at Rathborne High School. He is very insecure and is bullied by students and teachers.

Christa also finds out that on the morning of his murder, Matt secretly peeked into the girls' locker room and watched the girls change their clothes. Christa and Adam immediately agree that Matt really wanted to see Brandy Mulligan. Brandy spotted Matt and ran after him, so Matt hid in the bathroom where he was murdered. Adam, Matt, and Christa decide to question Brandy about Matt's murder. Christa looks for Brandy in the school backyard while Adam watches them both from hiding. Couples often meet secretly in the school backyard, so Brandy immediately wants to know who Christa has arranged to meet. When Christa asks her about Matt's death, Brandy shows little interest. She would rather know whether her top also goes with the skirt. However, Brandy suddenly becomes suspicious of Christa's questions. Therefore Adam comes out of his hiding place and gives himself up as Christa's friend. The conversation between the three of them remains friendly until Adam suddenly mentions Brandy's family name (Crompton) and tells the stories of the Crompton family. Brandy threatens Adam and suddenly behaves very differently. Adam is about to attack her and drink her blood. However, it can be stopped by Christa first. A short time later, however, he wants to kill Brandy again. Matt shouts after him that Brandy didn't kill him and that he saw her leave. Adam runs back and doesn't kill Brandy. Christa is furious that Matt didn't tell her right away that Brandy didn't kill him. Matt explains to her that he hoped she would keep thinking that Brandy Mulligan killed him. He didn't want it to come out that he was really only interested in Christa and that Christa was the one he was watching through the changing room. He had been in love with Christa for the past three years while Christa didn't even know he existed.
5 | 5 | - | Episode 5 | Feb. 27, 2011 | - | Alex Kalymnios | Jamie Mathieson |
In a love letter, Matt confesses his feelings for Christa. Even before he became a spirit, he was invisible to the world and invisible to it. However, he loved her and was amazed that no one could see Christa like him, as an angel between monsters. The last thing he did before he was murdered was to write a love message on the toilet wall: "I <3 Christa", whereby he did not even cope with it, but was murdered beforehand. His very last thoughts were on Christa. Christa is touched by the love letter, but doesn't return Matt's feelings. According to Adam, all students at school believe that Christa and Adam are a couple. Therefore Adam suggests a fake, public end of the relationship, or Christa and he could really start a relationship. Christa is not very enthusiastic about either. A short time later, Adam and Christa watch Mr. Roe being put down by Mr. Swan. Christa, Matt and Adam also want to get the videos from the school's surveillance camera. However, the video from the night of the murder is missing.

Before that, she only transformed in a protected space and that was bad for her. Christa is afraid of the coming night and of hurting or killing someone in her werewolf form. Adam learned a few tricks from the werewolves Nina and George to make the transformation a little less dangerous. He wants to help Christa and shows her some tricks. Christa knows the body is in the gym somewhere. So the three of them go in there. However, they are locked in the gym and Christa begins to transform into a werewolf. She will kill Adam if he stays in the room with her. At the last second, Adam and Matt lock Christa in the tool shed and barricade the door. The next morning, Adam and Matt let Christa out of the tool shed. They also find Matt's body.

Just as the trio have found Matt's body, Mr. Swan enters the room. He demands an explanation from Christa and Adam. However, they suspect Mr. Swan of the murder. Mr. Swan declares nothing to do with the murders. Adam and Christa finally realize that Mr. Swan is telling the truth and that Mr. Roe is the real killer. He had the opportunity to come into all rooms and was able to steal the video tapes. When Mr. Swan tries to call the police, Mr. Roe knocks him down. Mr. Roe explains that he murdered Matt believing the key that Matt wrote on the toilet wall with was used to scratch his car. He was only bullied and bullied, by students and teachers, and then his expensive car was also scratched. Fed up with all of this, he killed Matt. When Matt hears about all of this, he feels sorry for Mr. Roe. He explains to Christa and Adam that at their age he might have become just like Mr. Roe. He often feels like Mr. Roe, lonely and angry. However, by meeting Christa and Adam, Matt changed. Finally, Matt's door to the afterlife appears. However, neither of the three wants Matt to leave. When Mr. Roe attacks the three again, Matt pushes him through his own door into the afterlife. The door disappears. Matt can stay with Christa and Adam. |

Reviews and feedback
The feedback from Being Human fans has been very positive. 1.5 million fans watched the series and discussed the latest information on the person of Matt's killer online.
Nick Bryan judged that Becoming Human had a great deal of humor. Craig Roberts also portrays vampire Adam well in the series.
Robert William Berg explained that Becoming Human takes place in the same mystical context as the mother-in-law series Being Human. However, Becoming Human shows the problems from a different perspective, the perspective of teenagers. The series describes the difficulties in adolescence, the social stratifications and clique formation in the school system and bullying in everyday school life. The screenwriters Brian Dooley, Jamie Mathieson, and John Jackson are impressively able to treat these very serious problems with a gentle touch and a skilful, dark humor without ever taking the problems too lightly. However, the episodes were written and produced individually, which means that they do not merge seamlessly into one another. Overall, however, Becoming Human is a brilliant series. The scripts are of high quality. In addition, the main and supporting actors are very authentic and do an excellent job.
Dan Owen wrote that Becoming Human was pretty high quality. However, Becoming Human is not as sexy, stylish, tart and convincing as Misfits . The series is intended more for a younger audience. Some adults might not find the show particularly enticing.
