Klement Steinmetz

Klement Steinmetz (born March 23, 1915 - May 2, 2001 ) was an Austrian football player . The striker won the silver medal with the Austrian amateur selection at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin .

Career

Klement Steinmetz played for Kapfenberger SC in the Styrian regional league. At that time, the league was aimed at amateur players and was not connected to the professional Austrian championship, which at that time was limited to the Vienna area. With the Kapfenberg team, however, the runner mostly had to admit defeat to the Graz teams in the championship.

Coach Jimmy Hogan took him to the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936, although he had not yet played a game for the Austrian amateur national team. As a center forward, Klement Steinmetz was one of the outstanding players in the first two games, scoring three goals. After the scandalous game against Peru , however, he was injured and had to be replaced by Franz Mandl . Up until the Olympic final against Italy , Klement Steinmetz could be made fit again, but no longer match the scoring qualities in the first two games. With the team he finally lost the final 2-1 after extra time.

From 1938 he played in the top division at SK Amateure Steyr and at Grazer SC Tram .
