Andreas W. Schmidt (* 1950 ) is a German dialogue book author and director as well as dubbing and voiceover . He also wrote the playwright plays for children.

biography

Andreas W. Schmidt grew up in Frankfurt am Main . His father was a speaker teacher and during the 1930s he worked as a radio announcer for the Hessischer Rundfunk . Schmidt passed his Abitur in 1968 and studied at the University of Television and Film in Munich . After graduating in 1972, he was initially assistant director to Peter Beauvais at hr-Fernsehen , later to Rolf Stahl and Gerd Heinz at the Darmstadt State Theater . There he also worked as a stage manager. Further stations were theater stages in Oberhausen, Pforzheim, Bruchsal and Mannheim.

In the 1980s, Schmidt wrote plays for children, including Jonas in the Desert , which was performed under the direction of Gerhard Olschewski at the Theater für Kinder in Hamburg (1980), a stage adaptation of the fairy tale The Cold Heart by Wilhelm Hauff for the Freiburg Municipal Theaters (1985) and Die Spielmaschine , which was first staged in 1988 under the direction of Hans Escher at the Theater der Jugend in Vienna . As a guest actor he appeared in comedies by Molière at the Barock am Main theater festival , which Wolfgang Deichsel had rendered in the Hessian dialect. He portrayed Oronte in The Misanthrope and Bernd in The Imaginary Sick .

From 1986 to 1987 Schmidt was employed as a dubbing editor at ARD Degeto . From 1988 he worked as a writer and director in the Hamburg Synchron studio . There he wrote and directed the synchronization of the first two seasons of Baywatch - The Lifeguards of Malibu (1990-1992), for Wings - Die Überflieger (1994) or the 88-part sitcom VIP - The Bodyguards (1999-2003 ). At the beginning of the 2000s, Schmidt also made himself available to Berlin dubbing companies. Since 2005 he has been responsible for all German dialogue books for the sitcom Two and a Half Men edited by Cinephon and the crime series The Mentalist (since 2009). As a speaker he lent his voice to Thomas Haden Church as aircraft mechanic Lowell Mather in Wings - Die Überflieger (1994) and Joseph Long as host Luigi in Ashes to Ashes - Back to the 80s (2009).

In 2003, his 30-episode radio comedy Here is your computer ran on hr3 . In 2010 he was also heard as a narrator in the radio play adaptation of the series Books of Blood by Clive Barker .

Andreas W. Schmidt is a member of the publishing house of the authors . He is married with two children and lives in a quiet place in the district of Südwestpfalz, but also has a second home in Berlin. His sister Hildburg Schmidt (* 1943) is also an actress.
