The Books of Blood (engl. Original title Books of Blood ) is a collection of horror short stories written by Clive Barker , who drew the cover for some expenses.

Form and content

In total, Barker wrote six Books of Blood, titled The First Book of Blood to The Sixth Book of Blood , each with four to six stories. The books, first published between 1984 and 1985, won two British Fantasy Awards and a World Fantasy Award .

The protagonists of the stories are mostly average people who, by chance or unfortunate circumstances, get involved in threatening or supernatural processes. Although horror stories , Barker occasionally uses elements of fantasy .
The framework story is the story of a fraudulent medium that, while trying to simulate paranormal activities in a haunted house for its clients, is haunted by actual ghosts who carve their stories into its flesh, thus making it into a living book of blood.   • British Fantasy Award for Best Short Story , 1986 (for: The Forbidden , from The Fifth Book of Blood )
